REMINDER for Fall 2023 Instructors
As of September 2023, Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (Collaborate) is no longer being used at Camosun. The good news is we have integrated Zoom into D2L as a replacement for Collaborate.
In preparation for the fall term, the following ACTION IS REQUIRED by instructors:
- Discontinue ALL use of Collaborate now.
Do not use Collaborate for your Fall courses; remove Collaborate from your Fall 2023 course sites if applicable. - Save essential Collaborate recordings (IMPORTANT!).
If you have recordings you need to keep, download those recordings before December 2023 or they will be lost. Upload the recordings to Kaltura if you want to share them with students.
See Download a Collaborate Recording & Upload to Kaltura - Set up your Camosun Zoom account & download the Zoom Desktop App.

Equitable Access to Educational Technology at Camosun
When designing and delivering courses, we want to ensure that all students at Camosun have access to the educational technologies we use, such as D2L Brightspace, Zoom, Kaltura, BBAlly, and Readspeaker. However, since these tools are web-based, some students may encounter challenges in accessing sufficient bandwidth and the necessary technology to fully utilize them.
As you plan for online delivery, it’s important to consider how your students will access the online content. Some students may only have a mobile device instead of a laptop or desktop computer, while others might share a single device within their household or have unreliable internet access.
To ensure an inclusive and seamless learning experience, we recommend connecting with an instructional designer in eLearning. An instructional designer can help you explore the best technology options for your course. Additionally, we suggest confidentially surveying your students through email or the D2L survey tool to assess their access to devices and the internet. This information will help us to assist you in making choices that support all your students.
