Zoom for Faculty

Zoom is a web-based conferencing tool integrated with D2L to facilitate synchronous learning opportunities. This online tool allows users to connect and interact using audio, video and chat, and includes whiteboard and desktop sharing capabilities. These features facilitate real-time interaction and collaboration in your courses.  Below you’ll find resources on getting started with Zoom and accessibility, as well as a curated list of tutorials.

Getting Started with Zoom

Before hosting Zoom meetings, you will need to:

  1. Login into your Camosun Zoom Account (opens in a new tab),
  2. Download and install the Zoom Desktop Application (opens in a new tab), and
  3. Set up your profile and update your settings (Global Settings and Personal Settings).

Once you’ve downloaded Zoom and setup your profile and settings, we recommend reviewing Zoom: What To Know Before You Start (PDF) and Top 10 Things for Faculty to Know about Zoom (PDF), and adding a Zoom link to your D2L Navbar (PDF).

A Note on Accessibility

Zoom is a cloud-based platform, so some students may encounter challenges in accessing sufficient bandwidth and the necessary technology to fully utilize this application. Therefore, we recommend confidentially surveying your students through email or the D2L survey tool to assess their access to devices and the internet at the onset of the course.
